About ZWTM
ZWTM (Zero Waste Tāmaki Makaurau Trust) is a charitable trust dedicated to making zero waste in Auckland by 2040 achievable through a collaborative, accessible, and community-driven Resource Recovery Network (RRN).
Supporting Auckland's network of Community Recycling Centres (CRCs) and resource recovery initiatives, we strengthen connections, unlock opportunities, and build the systems needed to turn local action into regional impact.
Through collaboration, education, and practical support for reuse, repair, recycling, and resource recovery, we help communities create lasting change and build a more circular future for Tāmaki Makaurau.
Our Story, Our Purpose, Our Future
Established in 2025 by and for CRCs, ZWTM was created to help make zero waste in Tāmaki Makaurau achievable by 2040. We exist to empower communities to lead the transition to a zero-waste future through a thriving network of community-led resource recovery hubs and initiatives. Together, we help keep valuable resources in use, transform waste into opportunity, and create lasting benefits for communities, te taiao (the environment), and future generations.
ZWTM serves as an enabler for Auckland's RRN, helping CRCs and community-led initiatives access the connections, resources, knowledge, and opportunities they need to maximise their impact. We strengthen relationships across the network, unlock funding opportunities, facilitate the sharing of knowledge and expertise, and build the systems and partnerships needed to turn local action into regional impact. Guided by the principles of kaitiakitanga (guardianship), whanaungatanga (connection and relationships), and mahi tahi (working together), our approach centres on collaboration and supporting activities that sit at the top of the waste hierarchy, including reuse, repair, sharing, and resource recovery.
Our Vision:
For a thriving, regenerative Tāmaki Makaurau where communities exercise kaitiakitanga over resources, waste is designed out, and the wellbeing of people, place and te taiao is enhanced for generations to come. Through a circular economy grounded in manaakitanga (care for people and place), whanaungatanga, and collective action, we believe zero waste by 2040 is achievable.

To strengthen and grow Auckland's RRN by connecting, supporting, and empowering CRCs and community-led resource recovery initiatives to advance resource recovery and accelerate progress towards a zero waste Tāmaki Makaurau.
